Re: | Project 1, part 4: draft an ITU application |
Background.
The next portion of the project will be drafting an intent-to-use (1(b)) trademark registration application using the electronic TEAS tools found on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). You will do a “TEAS Standard” application. As noted below, you should not submit or file anything. Simply prepare and document the draft application. I will train you how to do this.
After training, you will prepare the application and document it for inclusion into your final casefile. But as detailed below, you may not submit or file anything with the USPTO. And as noted on the main project page, you also may not consult with anyone besides me or the class. Under no circumstances should you contact the USPTO or any lawyer. Nor may you seek or receive assistance from any other person other than me or current members of this class.
Do this before the training session:
- Read:
- Do the following:
- Watch this video on basic trademark registration with TEAS
- Review your notes of your conferences with your client. Now that you are almost ready to draft your application, review your planned classes and identification of goods/services. Use the Acceptable Identification of Goods and Services Manual to determine: 1) what classes to use; and 2) how you might phrase your goods/services.
- Create a USPTO account (see below for details)
- Draft your application using the TEAS TM app template.
