I’m porting over most of the posts to digital garbage and won’t update this site anymore.
How to find me and course pages
My home page is at http://nathenson.org.
My academic blog digital garbage can be found at http://digitalgarbage.net.
This site is my personal blog, where I post on whatever.
Course pages are available to STU students through Blackboard at http://webcourses.lexisnexis.com. You’ll need to get your Lexis ID from the law library.
UPDATE: Lexis is in the process of updating its main law school homepage. The update has led to problems for users of Internet Explorer 7. If you have difficulty logging into Blackboard, try using Mozilla Firefox.
Pittsburgh zoo
We recently visited the Pittsburgh Zoo. Here’s a baby tiger born recently at the zoo:

Mineo’s Pizza
I’m originally from Pittsburgh, having moved to South Florida a few years ago. Of the things I miss from Pittsburgh — or in Pittsburghese, “Picksburgh” — I especially miss its great pizza joints, such as Vincent’s Pizza Park on Ardmore Blvd. (famous for their huuuge pies).
Particularly great are three pizza places within two blocks of one another on Murray Avenue, in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh: Napoli Pizzeria, Aiello’s Pizza, and my lifelong favorite, Mineo’s Pizza House. Mineo’s has been a Pittsburgh institution since 1958. It’s so popular with expatriate Pittsburghers that it sends pies via FedEx to Mineo’s-deprived fans. My first Mineo’s pie, which I had when I was 5 or 6, was a life-changing experience, and I’ve been a loyal customer ever since.

I recently had a chance to re-visit Mineo’s and it was every bit as good as I remembered. We quickly devoured a large pie (half plain, half with onions and green pepper). Living in South Florida, I’m somewhat pizza-deprived. There’s a lot of good and varied food in South Florida, and I particularly enjoy the many good sushi and Thai restaurants. But I have yet to find a pizza place that comes close to the best of Pittsburgh.
Visitor
Earlier this summer, a pregnant dove set up shop on a windowsill. We watched the hatchlings outside our bedroom window for weeks before mother and babies went off on their own. Doves come back from time to time, and I like to think this is one of the babies born this summer.

Update: a while later, two birds were on the windowsill. I’m sure they’re ours.

Rocco’s the man
Working, I paid little attention to the British Open this weekend. (A Tiger-less tournament is much easier to ignore). After the first round, Rocco was tied for the lead, but he finished the tournament tied for 19th.
It’s a shame he didn’t win. Like me, he’s from Western Pennsylvania. Unlike me, the man can golf and last month, provided the most exciting golf I’ve ever seen when he almost beat Tiger at the U.S. Open after five days of golf and a 19-hole playoff.
Best wishes to Rocco, though. What a class act.
Perfection rocks
CBS News Sunday Morning did a story on Lew French, an artist that builds walls with rocks. French’s work is amazing, but even more interesting is the story’s take on artists and perfection. Discussing how French builds walls and fireplaces, the written portion says:
As usual, he has assembled thousands of stones to choose from. As usual, he has hand-picked every one. And, as usual, without chiseling or altering the face of the stone in any way, he will make sure they all fit perfectly, no matter how long it takes.
Here’s the story.
